If you go to see the tiny Treasures in person, don't forget to stop by the Center For Visual Art in Wausau.  This year the CVA hosts the 2014 State WRAP Exhibition to acknowledge and celebrate the statewide reach of the Wisconsin Regional Artist Association on its 60th Anniversary.  There are 164 artworks by Wisconsin artists who have won State Awards at the over 20 local WRAP Exhibits throughout Wisconsin.

This exhibition is a collaborative effort of the non-profit organization, Wisconsin Regional Artist Association (WRAA) and the Wisconsin Regional Arts Program (WRAP), an adult arts program administered by the UW-Madison Division of Continuing Studies, the exhibition is an opportunity to recognize award recipients from the local WRAP art exhibitions/workshops across the state organized in collaboration with local arts organizations and arts venues for Wisconsin artists who love the creative process and aspire to reach their greatest creative potential but do not identify as professional artists.

Check out both exhibitions on display through September 26th.

The 2014 State WRAP Exhibit at the Center for Visual Art (CVA)

This exhibition is a collaborative effort of the non-profit organization, Wisconsin Regional Artist Association (WRAA) and the Wisconsin Regional Arts Program (WRAP), an adult arts program administered by the UW-Madison Division of Continuing Studies, the exhibition is an opportunity to recognize award recipients from the local WRAP art exhibitions/workshops across the state organized in collaboration with local arts organizations and arts venues for Wisconsin artists who love the creative process and aspire to reach their greatest creative potential but do not identify as professional artists.

The Center For Visual Art in Wausau hosts the 2014 WRAP Exhibition to acknowledge and celebrate the statewide reach of the Wisconsin Regional Artist Association on its 60th Anniversary.

Originally known as the Wisconsin Rural Art Program, the now Wisconsin Regional Art Program exhibitions and workshops started in 1940 to encourage the creative growth of Wisconsin lay artists from rural areas, under the guidance of the well-known American artist John Steuart Curry. (There is currently an exhibition of focus on Curry’s years in Wisconsin through September 14th the Museum of Wisconsin Art.)

Today the over twenty annual local WRAP events includes an exhibition juried by professional artists who select the artists who will be invited to participate in this State WRAP Exhibition.  Each WRAP concludes with an artist presented workshop on a topic of artistic interest for the participants.

The Wisconsin Regional Artist Association started in 1954 with just 36 members. The organization’s mission then and now is to support Wisconsin Regional Art Program (WRAP).

In 2014 the WRAA's celebrates its 60th Anniversary promoting the creative growth of Wisconsin's artists. Today with over 600 members, WRAA members continue to participate in and promote WRAP exhibits and the annual WRAP State Exhibit and Conference.

The 164 artists participating in this exhibition represent local WRAP Workshop State Award recipients, WRAP Exhibit/Workshop Coordinators, and WRAA Board members. The participating artists are eligible to receive one of 60 art awards selected by individual awards donors and the exhibition judge.  The awards have a combined worth of almost $5000.   We are delighted that this years’ professional juror is Diana Budde, associate professor of art at the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County.

The WRAA and WRAP extend a heartfelt thanks to the Center For Visual Art, its board and executive director Rose DeHut, for providing such a lovely venue for the exhibition and for collaborating on our efforts to support the creative development of Wisconsin’s lay artists!  In particular we thank the amazing volunteers and members of the Wisconsin Valley Art Association who both host the Wausau area WRAP at the CVA and who have added extra hands and support to the presentation of this exhibition and surrounding events.
