Introducing Liese Pfeifer: artist, curator, educator
If her name is familiar it may be because Liese was the professional artist/educator invited to serve as the 2015 juror for the state WRAP exhibition. This experience was a good in depth introduction to the WRAP and WRAA organizations, our participants, and our shared missions.
Liese received her MFA from UW-Madison pursuing graduate studies in sculpture. In addition to being an award winning artist she has broad experience in the art world. Liese managed the Museum Shop and publication distribution at the Elvehjem Museum of Art (now Chazen) for eleven years. Working with the Madison Children’s Museum, she created felted artworks that were a part of the Hmong traveling exhibition to other museums. She has also worked to help organizations like health care facilities develop art collections through her work as a freelance curator.
Liese is also the former Director of Ruth Davis Design Gallery, located in the UW School of Human Ecology, where she worked with visiting artists, curated, designed and installed exhibitions while teaching college students all aspects of running a gallery in an academic setting. Most recently, she juried the 2016 MMOCA Art Fair on the Square.
Liese brings this wealth of experience to the Wisconsin Regional Art Program and its network of 25 local WRAP workshops/exhibitions. She looks forward to partnering with the WRAA to continue to provide educational and exhibition opportunities that encourage the creative growth of Wisconsin citizens with a serious interest in Art.
Pfeifer believes art enhances all of our lives and she is a passionate lifelong learner about the preservation of our environment and cultural past. She is an artist, teacher, curator, mother, and works towards ecological sustainability.
Off duty, Liese enjoys cross- country skiing and getting her hands dirty restoring prairies and creating mixed media sculpture and installations.
